When this funky guitar was unveiled in 1958, the Gibson Explorer was looked at strangely until people realized in spite of it's radical style that was far removed from other guitars of the era, it was a hell raiser that deserved the attention it got. Back when the electric solid body guitar was just starting to be accepted, Gibson threw a wrench in the works of the music world that was hard to ignore...even if you tried. Try to picture this edgy, sharp and pointed guitar in the hands of a late 1950's jazz or blues player..it just doesn't mesh. These weren't well received but gained popularity later as players realized they were lighter than the Les Paul, sounded as good and made a statement that made people take notice. If you can find one, let me know and I'll be happy to take it off your hands..I don't mind the sharp edges a bit. Check back here to see more cool old junk.
